Could the map leave a few blanks?
I want useful directions. I also want to find a place because I took the wrong road, not because an icon told me it existed. What's the right balance?

Optional layers. Everybody goes home.
Optional doesn't help if the default is a mess.
I will still add a layer for things I do not know yet.
