Theory: Cal Hampton's knee tattoo is Piggsy from Manhunt

On Rockstar's official artwork of Cal Hampton on a boat, his right knee carries a half-hidden tattoo of a one-eyed pig head. Fans read it as Piggsy, the chainsaw killer from Rockstar's 2003 game Manhunt. Rockstar has not said so.

What supports it

  • The tattoo shows a pig head with an ear and a single visible eye, the look of Piggsy's mask.
  • Rockstar has put Piggsy in a GTA before: San Andreas has a Piggsy figure in Zero's RC shop.
  • Manhunt came out on PS2 in North America on November 19, 2003. GTA VI comes out on November 19, 2026.

What argues against it

  • The boat hull hides most of the tattoo, so the details are hard to read.
  • Rockstar has not named the tattoo or mentioned Manhunt in GTA VI material.
  • A pig head is a common tattoo design and may be just that.

What the artwork showsUnconfirmed

Rockstar's official artwork of Cal Hampton has him sitting cross-legged on the bow of a boat under a highway bridge, in a floral shirt and sandals, with a beer in one hand. Both legs are covered in tattoos. The one fans care about is on his right knee, right where the leg meets the hull: a coloured pig head with an ear and one eye, cut off by the edge of the boat.

The artwork came out with the May 2025 batch of GTA VI promotional art. YouTuber GTAVIoclock pointed out the tattoo soon after, and the comparison spread from there. Cal himself is Jason's paranoid friend from the Keys, the man who, in Rockstar's words, "feels safest hanging at home, snooping on Coast Guard comms".

Who Piggsy is

Unconfirmed

Piggsy is one of the final and most frightening enemies in Manhunt, a stealth horror game made by Rockstar North and released on PlayStation 2 in November 2003. The player is James Earl Cash, a death-row prisoner whose execution is faked so that a former film director, Lionel Starkweather, can make him the star of a snuff film. Cash has to get through the gangs of Carcer City while Starkweather watches through cameras and talks in his ear.

Piggsy is a huge man in a pig's head who lives chained in the attic of Starkweather's mansion and carries a chainsaw. Near the end of the game he breaks loose. Cash can only win with stealth: he lures Piggsy onto a grate that gives way under his weight, takes the chainsaw and uses it on him. Cash then finishes Starkweather with the same chainsaw.

The game never explains who Piggsy is under the mask. That silence is a large part of why he became the face of Manhunt.

Why Manhunt was pulled from UK shopsUnconfirmed

Manhunt is one of Rockstar's darkest games, and in 2004 it became the centre of a national scandal in Britain. On February 26, 2004, 14-year-old Stefan Pakeerah was murdered in Leicester by 17-year-old Warren Leblanc. The victim's parents blamed Manhunt, and the retailers Dixons and Game took it off their shelves after Leblanc pleaded guilty that July.

Police rejected the alleged link. In a BBC report published on August 5, Leicestershire Police said their investigation had found no connection to the game: the motive was robbery, and the copy of Manhunt was found in Stefan's bedroom, not Leblanc's. On September 3, Leblanc was sentenced to life, with a minimum term of 13 years. The judge held him responsible for the attack. No causal link between the game and the killing was established.

Piggsy in GTA beforeUnconfirmed

This would not be Piggsy's first GTA appearance. In GTA San Andreas, Zero's RC shop in Garcia, San Fierro has a rack of action figures by the till, and Piggsy and James Earl Cash are among them. It makes no sense in story terms, since San Andreas is set in 1992 and Manhunt in 2003, but Rockstar has always liked hiding its other games in GTA shops.

The San Andreas figure also started one of the series' best-known myths, that Piggsy roams the woods at night. There is no verified Piggsy encounter in the unmodified game; fan-made mods helped keep the story alive.

How strong the theory isUnconfirmed

The visible details make the comparison plausible, and Rockstar has a history of exactly this kind of nod. The date makes it tempting too: GTA VI comes out on November 19, 2026, 23 years to the day after Manhunt's North American release.

But half the tattoo is hidden by the hull, and Rockstar has said nothing. Even if it is Piggsy, it is most likely a joke on a character's skin, not a hint that Manhunt shares GTA VI's world: a reference to another Rockstar game does not establish a shared continuity. A clearer view in the released game might help, but even that would not confirm the reference by itself. For now, treat it as an unconfirmed fan interpretation.
