Theory: "Love Is a Long Road" was picked as a joke about the wait

Rockstar used Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road", from 1989's Full Moon Fever, as the only music in Trailer 1. The official Tom Petty site confirmed the placement. The obvious reading is the story: the trailer builds to a couple robbing a store together. Many fans also saw a second joke in the title, since Trailer 1 came more than ten years after GTA V.

The first reading is on screen. The trailer is about a relationship, and Rockstar planted a "Petty Forever" sticker on the store door. The wait joke is a fan interpretation. Rockstar chooses trailer songs mostly for mood and theme, and has never commented on the wait. Florida is Petty's home state, and San Andreas used a song from the same album, which is reason enough to pick him. Treat the wait reading as a theory.
