Vice City has always borrowed from the screen. The 2002 original wore its love of Scarface and Miami Vice openly. Now GTA 6 fans think Rockstar has slipped in a nod to a Miami show that came later: Dexter.
The claim is specific, which makes it worth checking. Here is what it rests on, how well it holds up, and why our answer for now is "maybe".
The short version
A fan says a waterfront apartment complex seen in the GTA 6 Extended Look matches the real Miami building used as Dexter Morgan's home in the Showtime series. The resemblance is real enough to talk about. Rockstar has not confirmed anything, and nobody has yet matched a detail that only that one building has. Treat it as a fan theory until November 19.
Where the theory comes from
On August 27, the day Rockstar's roughly 26-minute Extended Look went out, a fan posting on X as @saukko505 shared a side-by-side image. One half shows a complex on the Vice City waterfront from the video. The other shows the Bay Harbor Club in Miami. Their caption suggested that "a modified version of Dexter Morgan's apartment" will be in the game.
The idea spread fast. Dexerto, EpicStream and several other outlets covered it within days. Every one of them notes the same thing: Rockstar has said nothing about it.
We checked the footage. The complex appears at about 18:56, as Lucia parachutes over the Vice City waterfront after jumping from a rooftop. Some coverage puts it at the 18-minute mark; it comes a little later.
The real building behind Dexter's home
In the series, Dexter lives at the fictional Palm Terrace. The exterior shots used a real condo, the Bay Harbor Club at 1155 103rd Street in Bay Harbor Islands, according to Miami New Times. The interiors were built on a studio set in Los Angeles. The town also gave the show one of its best-known names: the Bay Harbor Butcher.
It is a private residential building. Fans who turned up at the door have caused enough trouble that it is worth saying plainly: if the theory sends you looking for it on a map, leave the residents alone.
Side by side

What matches
The comparison points to four shared features:
- a T-shaped footprint;
- a rounded external staircase at the corner;
- walkways cutting across a lawn;
- a position right on the water.
In the game frame, the complex reads as long low-rise blocks with open walkways beside the water, with green space between them. At this distance the rounded staircase, the detail that makes the real building easy to recognise, is not clearly visible.
Taken together, that is a recognisable silhouette, and Rockstar's Vice City is built from real Miami neighbourhoods. A nod to one of the most famous Miami-set shows of the last twenty years would fit that habit.
Why we're not calling it confirmed
Three things keep this in theory territory.
First, the building type is common. Low-rise, mid-century apartment blocks with open walkways and exterior stairs are everywhere in South Florida. A loose match to one of them proves less than it seems.
Second, nobody has matched a detail unique to the Bay Harbor Club. A sign, a name, a colour scheme, the boat Dexter kept at the dock: any of those would move the needle. Some write-ups mention the boat, but we have not found a source showing it in the footage.
Third, Rockstar adapts rather than copies. Vice City's landmarks are usually remixes of real places, so a building can echo a real one without being a deliberate reference to a TV show that used it.
The Dexter story that isn't about GTA 6
One detail travelling with this theory needs correcting. Some coverage says a board with the names "Dexter Fisher" and "Morgan Price" was spotted in GTA 6. The references we could trace point to GTA Online's Halloween and slasher content, which is part of GTA V, not to anything Rockstar has shown from GTA 6. Fiction Horizon, for example, ties it to the new footage, and we could not confirm that link. Until someone shows it in GTA 6 material, leave it out of the argument.
The same goes for claims that a developer said Dexter has a "major role" in the game. We found no named source for that.
Our verdict
Plausible, fun, and unconfirmed. The silhouette is close enough that fans are right to ask, and a quiet nod to Dexter would suit a game set in a city that has always played with Miami's screen history. But the evidence today is one comparison image of a very common building type.
We will check the building in the game when GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 and update this piece either way.
