Back Country Radio

Overview

Back Country Radio is where GTA VI keeps its country music. In Rockstar's words, "MW and Delta Dawne blast renegade country music to the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, and beyond." The music page shortens it to "airboat-ready renegade country."

Most of the six stations in the October 8 reveal sell themselves on Vice City or on Leonida as a whole. This one names its home turf outright: the wetlands of the Grassrivers and the town of Port Gellhorn, well away from the Vice City strip.

Mud Dog Mike

Back Country Radio is the only station in the reveal with a third named personality. Rockstar tells listeners to "stay tuned for Back Country's roving reporter, swamp meteorologist, and Delta's not-so-secret lover Mud Dog Mike," who checks in "from the driver's seat of his Grassrivers airboat."

So the station has its own field reporter and weatherman working from a swamp boat, plus an on-air romance with one of its hosts that Rockstar is happy to call not-so-secret.

Who the hosts are reported to beUnconfirmed

Rockstar names only MW, Delta Dawne and Mud Dog Mike. Stereogum's headline was blunt: "Lana Del Rey, Morgan Wallen, & Lana Del Rey's Husband Will Host A GTA VI In-Game Radio Station." According to Stereogum, Morgan Wallen plays MW, Lana Del Rey plays Delta Dawne, and Del Rey's husband Jeremy Dufrene, whom it describes as an alligator tour guide, plays Mud Dog Mike. Stereogum also says Del Rey teased the news on her Instagram Story the day before. The Fader reported the same three names.

Wallen already has a GTA VI credit: his single Last Thing You Need is on the official album. Rockstar hasn't said whether it plays on Back Country Radio, and the casting stays reported until Rockstar confirms it.

What the preview playsUnconfirmed

The station's preview is on Rockstar's music page. Game Informer's Shazam list for it is all older country: David Allan Coe's "Need a Little Time Off for Bad Behavior," Loretta Lynn's "Don't Come Home a Drinkin'" and "The Conversation" by Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings. None of it comes from Wallen's or Del Rey's own catalogues. Three songs from a short clip are not a track list.
