How big is the GTA 6 map, officially?Unconfirmed

Rockstar has not given an exact area. As of October 20, 2026, there is no official square-mile or square-kilometre figure, no official map with a scale, and no breakdown of land versus water.

A firsthand New York Times report by Christopher Byrd says Rockstar described the whole GTA 6 map as three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2, and Vice City itself as twice the size of Los Santos in GTA V. The Star republished the report. These are comparative statements, not a measured area with published boundaries.

A different comparison comes from Game Informer’s September 29 cover story, which we have not checked directly because the full text is paywalled. Dexerto and Insider Gaming report Aaron Garbut calling Leonida Rockstar’s largest map “by some degree” and describing the whole map as roughly twice GTA 5’s Los Santos and Blaine County. Treat that wording as secondhand until the original interview can be checked.

Rockstar has named six destinations in Leonida: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. How much ground each one covers is not known.

Rockstar has not published a measurement, a map scale or a land-versus-water breakdown. Estimates based on GTA 5 vary because their starting measurements and treatment of water differ. Applying an approximate comparison to those inconsistent baselines cannot produce a reliable GTA 6 area. We will add a figure only when it can be measured from released material with a stated method.

How does the GTA 6 map compare with GTA 5 and RDR2?Unconfirmed

Rockstar told Christopher Byrd of The New York Times that the whole GTA 6 map is three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2, while Vice City is twice Los Santos. The second comparison is city to city; it does not say GTA 6’s whole map is twice GTA 5’s whole map.

Dexerto and Insider Gaming separately summarize a September 2026 Game Informer interview as describing Leonida as roughly twice GTA 5’s Los Santos and Blaine County. We have not directly verified that interview’s wording. None of these comparisons gives an exact area, and different fan measurements of GTA 5 and RDR2 make derived square-mile figures unstable.

Why don't we use leaked map numbers?

Several widely shared GTA 6 map sizes come from community maps stitched together from leaked footage or unofficial material. They may turn out to be close, but they are not sources we can check, and they are not what Rockstar has shown. This page sticks to official statements and labelled arithmetic. When the game is out, the in-game map can be measured properly, and we will add that here with the method shown.
