No. As of October 13, 2026, there is no confirmed way to play Grand Theft Auto VI on a PC at launch, either as a native release or through Xbox Cloud Gaming. A report on October 6 suggested Xbox's cloud service would open that door, and within hours Xbox's chief strategy officer said the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
That puts PC players back where they were before the story broke: waiting on Rockstar. Here is what was reported, what was denied and what is still open.
What The Verge reported
On the evening of October 6, The Verge's Tom Warren published a story headlined "Xbox has secured exclusive GTA 6 streaming rights." It said Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had told employees at an all-hands meeting that Microsoft was preparing something around GTA VI that "no other platform holder is doing." Citing "sources familiar with Microsoft's plans," the report said Xbox had landed "the exclusive game streaming rights" and that "only Xbox Cloud Gaming can stream Grand Theft Auto VI to players at launch."
The PC angle was the report's own inference. Because Rockstar has not announced a PC version, the original story said the deal "will allow Xbox to market its Xbox Cloud Gaming service to PC players who would otherwise need an Xbox Series X / S or PS5 console." Other outlets turned that into headlines promising GTA 6 on PC in November.
What Microsoft said
Matthew Ball, Xbox's chief strategy officer, answered on X:
"While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
The post went up at 02:59 UTC on October 7, which was still the evening of October 6 in US time zones. It is the only on-record Microsoft statement we found. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not commented publicly on the report, and no Xbox Wire post addresses GTA VI streaming.
The correction
The Verge rewrote the piece. The headline dropped the word "exclusive" and now reads "Xbox has secured GTA 6 streaming rights." A note at the bottom says: "Correction, October 6th: Xbox has clarified that its streaming deal isn't exclusive and Grand Theft Auto VI won't be streamed to PCs."
The corrected story still says, based on its sources, that Xbox Cloud Gaming can stream the game at launch. It also offers a reading of Ball's post: the deal may be "simply for Xbox console streaming," which "may mean the web browsers and apps that can usually access Xbox Cloud Gaming will not be able to stream Grand Theft Auto VI." That is The Verge's interpretation, not something Microsoft has said.
Timeline
- September 3, 2026: Xbox Wire announces monthly cloud gaming hour limits and a way to buy cloud time without Game Pass, both starting in November.

- October 7, 2026, 02:59 UTC (October 6 in the US): Matthew Ball posts on X that the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
- By early October 7 UTC: The Verge's page carries the new headline and a correction dated October 6.
- November 19, 2026: GTA VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What is confirmed and what is not
Confirmed on the record: Rockstar lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, and Microsoft says it will launch on Xbox that day.
Reported but not confirmed: that Xbox has a streaming deal and Xbox Cloud Gaming will carry the game at launch. That rests on The Verge's sources. Ball's wording rules out only exclusive streaming and PC streaming, which implies some streaming is planned, but he did not say where or on which devices.
Denied: that the streaming rights are exclusive to Xbox, and that the game will stream to PC.
Still unknown: whether GTA VI will be on Xbox Cloud Gaming on day one, which devices could stream it, how long any agreement runs, and whether "not to PC" is a launch position or a permanent one.
The cloud hour limits are real
The Verge also mentioned new limits on Xbox Cloud Gaming, and those come straight from Microsoft. In a September 3 Xbox Wire post, Xbox said that "beginning in November" Game Pass plans will include a set number of cloud hours each month: 15 for Game Pass Ultimate, 10 for Premium and 5 for Essential. Subscribers who run out can buy more time through the Xbox Store. Also from November, players without Game Pass will be able to "purchase cloud playtime hours through the XBOX Store and stream eligible games they own on supported devices." Xbox says pricing, the list of eligible games and market availability will come in November.
So even if GTA VI does turn up in the cloud on some devices, the top tier covers 15 hours a month. In a game this size, that is a handful of evenings before extra time costs money.
So can you play GTA 6 on PC at launch?
No. On November 19 you need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced PC version, and Microsoft has said the game will not stream to PC. Any GTA 6 PC requirements you see online are guesses.
Three things would change that answer: Rockstar announcing a PC release, Microsoft or Rockstar publishing a device list for GTA VI on Xbox Cloud Gaming that includes PC or browsers, or Microsoft walking back Ball's statement. None of them has happened as of October 13.
