GTA 6 Editions Explained: Standard vs Ultimate

The short version

Rockstar sells GTA VI in two editions. The Standard Edition is the game, available digitally or as a code in a box. The Ultimate Edition is digital only and adds a large set of extra items that unlock as Jason and Lucia's story moves forward. Pre-ordering before launch adds bonuses to either edition, covered in our pre-order guide.

The Goodtime State - Vice City Collection is something else: a Collector's Box of physical merchandise. It does not include the game.

Standard Edition

Rockstar describes it simply: "Get the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI along with pre-order bonuses." It comes as a digital download or as a physical box.

The physical box is not what many players expect. Rockstar's store says: "Physical versions will only contain a download code inside the box to support pre-load on November 12. A disc will not be included in the box." If you want a disc for your collection shelf, there isn't one.

Ultimate Edition

The Ultimate Edition is digital only. Rockstar calls it "an exclusive collection of items threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story," and says new items are "uncovered behind each chapter", so you do not get everything on day one.

The official Editions page lists these items:

Several of these are places rather than items. Rockstar marks five destinations as open only to Ultimate Edition owners: Rideout Customs, Sara's Unisex Salon, Stock 305, the Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor and One-Eyed Willie's Mod Shop.

Prices

Rockstar's own GTA VI pages do not list prices, so these are current store examples checked on September 26, 2026:

• PlayStation Store (US): $79.99 Standard, $99.99 Ultimate
• PlayStation Store (UK): £69.99 Standard, £89.99 Ultimate
• PlayStation Store (Germany): €79.99 Standard, €99.99 Ultimate
• Xbox Store (US): $79.99 Standard, $99.99 Ultimate

Rockstar Store prices vary by selected region. Check the local product page before buying because prices and availability can change.

Can you upgrade later?

Yes. The Rockstar Store says: "Purchased the game? Upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on PlayStation Store at any time," with the same option on the Microsoft Store for Xbox. You can start with Standard and decide after you have played.

The Collector's Box is not a game edition

The Goodtime State - Vice City Collection is a separate merchandise box inspired by Macca the Gator, Leonida's in-game TV show. Its eleven items include a figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a New Era hat, a crossbody bag and a poster. The current U.S. Rockstar Store listing is $399.99 and explicitly says the game is sold separately. Local price and availability may differ.

Do you need to decide now?

No. The Standard Edition includes the full game, and Rockstar lets you upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store at any time. The Ultimate items also unlock chapter by chapter rather than all at once, so you can see how the story plays out before paying the difference.
