GTA 6 Cheats: How Cheats Work in GTA and What We Know So Far

Are there GTA 6 cheats yet?

No. As of October 7, 2026, Rockstar has not published a single GTA VI cheat code and has not said whether the game has cheats at all. The official site lists the release date (November 19, 2026), the platforms (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) and the pre-order details. It says nothing about cheats, and neither does anything else Rockstar has released so far, including the 26-minute Extended Look.

So every "GTA 6 cheat list" circulating today is one of two things: GTA V codes with a new heading, or invention. We are not going to repeat either. This page explains how cheats have worked in GTA so you know what to look for, and it becomes our verified list once the game is out.

GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas: button combos

In the PlayStation 2 trilogy, a cheat was a sequence of controller buttons pressed during normal play. There was no cheat menu: you had to know the sequence.

The same method came back in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition in 2021. Game Informer's guide tells players to enter the button prompts in-game, warns that cheats lock certain trophies and achievements, and recommends saving first. Rockstar also admitted that not every old code survived the move to Unreal Engine. Producer Rich Rosado said, as quoted by GTA BOOM, "We actually had to remove a couple for technical reasons, certain things that didn't play well in the Unreal base." A remaster, in other words, did not guarantee the old codes would work.

GTA IV and GTA V: the phone becomes the cheat pad

GTA IV moved cheats onto Niko Bellic's cellphone. The phone handled contacts, activities and the online mode, and it was also where players dialled numbers to enter cheat codes.

GTA V kept button combos on console and added two more routes. On PC you open a command console with the tilde key (~) and type the code word, for example TURTLE for full health and armor. On every platform you can also dial a number on the in-game phone: 1-999 followed by the digits that spell the code word on a phone keypad, so TURTLE becomes 1-999-887-853. GamesRadar+ notes the phone method "works the same way on all formats".

The phone numbers were not in the game's first release. GamingBolt reported the first phone code for the PS4 and Xbox One version on November 25, 2014, shortly after that version launched, and described it as "the first cheat we know of" for those consoles. Players found it. Rockstar did not announce it.

Red Dead Redemption 2: cheats you have to earn

Rockstar's most recent open-world game handled cheats differently. In Red Dead Redemption 2 most cheats unlock when you buy specific newspapers from vendors as the story progresses, and you enter them as typed phrases in a Cheats list inside the Settings menu, not as button combos. PowerPyx counted 37 cheats and warned that "activating cheats will disable trophies and disallows you from saving game progress".

That matters for GTA VI because it shows Rockstar is willing to change the input method and the penalties from one game to the next. Whether GTA VI follows GTA V, Red Dead 2 or something new is not known.

What cheats did to trophies and saves in GTA V

If you care about trophies, these are the GTA V rules worth knowing, because they are the most likely template for GTA VI, though nothing is confirmed:

• Trophies and achievements switch off. GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer both say entering a cheat disables them. IGN adds that this applies "only for the current play session": restarting the game brings them back.
• Mission ratings are capped. PC Gamer says that with a cheat active you cannot earn better than Bronze on a mission.
• Story mode only, outside missions. PC Gamer notes cheats work only in story mode and not during missions, and a new save has to reach the open world first. None of them work in GTA Online.
• Keep a separate save. GamesRadar+ suggests a save dedicated to cheating and notes that most cheats can be turned off by entering them again.

GTA V's Director Mode also lets you toggle settings such as invincibility and wanted level without touching your story save, according to IGN.

What changes on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

GTA VI is announced only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, so there is no typed PC console to talk about for now. That leaves two routes the series has used on console: button sequences and the phone.

In GTA V the same cheats were available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with the same phone numbers everywhere and each console using its own button names. Our cheats hub works the same way: switch between PS5 and Xbox and each code is shown with that controller's buttons. If a code has no verified input for a platform, the hub says so instead of guessing.

GTA VI does have a smartphone. GamesRadar+ has reported that you can scroll social media on it while the other character drives. A phone does not prove phone cheats are coming. It only means the GTA IV and GTA V approach would still fit.

What we expect, and what we do notUnconfirmed

This section is our reading of the history above, not a Rockstar statement.

• Cheats in some form are likely. Every main GTA from III to V shipped with them, and Red Dead 2 did too. But Rockstar has never confirmed GTA VI cheats.
• Expect trophies to be locked while cheating. GTA V, the Definitive Editions and Red Dead 2 all did it in some form.
• Codes will come from players, not a press release. In GTA V's case the first new-generation phone code was reported by players shortly after that version launched.
• Do not trust pre-release lists. A list published before November 19 cannot have been tested on the game.

We also will not use material from the leaked pre-release builds. If codes appear in leaked files, they stay off this site until they can be checked on the released game.

How we will list GTA 6 codes

From November 19 we will collect every code reported by Rockstar or by reputable outlets and give each one its own entry in the cheats hub, with the effect, the input for PS5 and for Xbox, and the source. Each entry starts as unconfirmed. It is marked confirmed only after we have entered it on a console ourselves, and we will say which platform we tested it on and whether it turned off trophies or saving.

If Rockstar publishes an official list, it goes to the top of this page the same day.
