GTA 6 Collectibles: What to Expect, Based on Every GTA and the Trailers

Rockstar has not announced a collectibles list for GTA VI. Here is what every main GTA hid around its map and what finding it all paid out, plus the one collection activity Rockstar has confirmed and what the trailers hint at.

What Rockstar has confirmed

Rockstar has not published a collectibles list for GTA VI, and nothing in the trailers or the Extended Look is labelled as one. The one activity it has described as a collection is in the Ultimate Edition: the Classic Car Collection. Rockstar's Editions page describes it as tracking down "a variety of abandoned classic and work-in-progress project cars" and restoring them "in this special commission from eccentric collector and local fixer, Wyman". Take-Two's edition text, reported by Shacknews, adds that you can "make them your own, including four vehicles that are only available in the Ultimate Edition."

Rockstar has not said how many cars there are, where they are, or whether Standard Edition players get a version of the hunt. Everything else on this page is series history or our reading of it.

[1][2][3]

GTA III: the hidden package template

GTA 2 had tokens, but GTA III set the pattern the series kept for years: 100 Hidden Packages spread around Liberty City, alongside Rampages and stunt jumps. According to the GTA Wiki, each package paid $1,000, and every tenth one added a permanent weapon pickup outside your safehouses, starting with a pistol and ending with a rocket launcher. The last package paid an extra $1,000,000.

The rewards made the hunt worth doing early. Grab packages in the first hours and you started missions better armed.

[4][5]

Vice City: packages at the Ocean View Hotel

Vice City kept 100 Hidden Packages, now green tiki statues worth $100 each. Every ten unlocked a new item at Tommy's safehouses, including the Ocean View Hotel and the Vercetti Estate. At 80, 90 and 100 the rewards were a Sea Sparrow, a Rhino tank and a Hunter helicopter, with a $100,000 bonus at the end.

Both of those safehouse names are back in official GTA VI material. Rockstar's caption for the Vintage Vice City Pack image reads "Jason and Lucia standing outside the Ocean View Hotel holding handguns", and our wiki has pages on the hotel and the Vercetti Estate. No GTA VI collectible has been tied to either place.

[6][2]

San Andreas: one collectible per city

San Andreas split collecting by city. Los Santos had 100 gang tags to spray over, San Fierro had 50 snapshots you had to photograph, Las Venturas had 50 horseshoes, and 50 oysters lay underwater across the whole state. The rewards went beyond cash. All 50 oysters, the GTA Wiki notes, gave a $100,000 bonus, maxed out CJ's lung capacity and let him date girlfriends regardless of his looks.

San Andreas also had 70 unique stunt jumps, which did not count toward 100 percent completion.

[4][7]

GTA IV: 200 pigeons

GTA IV swapped packages for 200 "flying rats", pigeons you had to shoot. There were no rewards along the way. Shooting all of them unlocked an Annihilator helicopter at the MeTV Building and the Endangered Species achievement or trophy. The DLC episodes used 50 seagulls instead.

Sportskeeda's history of the series' collectibles calls the pigeons "the most infamous example" of an underwhelming hunt: twice the usual count, no incremental reward, and a prize you could get more easily elsewhere.

GTA V: collectibles with stories attached

GTA V tied its biggest hunts to Strangers and Freaks side stories:

  • Spaceship parts (50). They open Omega's final mission, The Final Frontier, which rewards the Space Docker buggy and the From Beyond the Stars achievement. There is no reward per part.
  • Letter scraps (50). They unlock A Starlet in Vinewood, a murder mystery about a starlet killed decades earlier.
  • Nuclear waste (30). Available after buying the Sonar Collections Dock, with money per barrel and a $250,000 bonus for all 30.
  • Submarine pieces (30) and Epsilon tracts (10). Story-linked, but not needed for 100 percent.

GTA V also turned stunts into checklists: 50 stunt jumps, 50 Under the Bridge flights and 15 Knife Flights. They do not count toward 100 percent completion, but they feed the Show Off and Close Shave achievements. The enhanced version later added 27 peyote plants and 50 monkey mosaics, which also sit outside 100 percent.

Collectibles and 100 percent completion

Not every collectible has counted toward 100 percent, and that is worth knowing before you spend an evening on one. In GTA V, the GTA Wiki's completion checklist includes all 50 spaceship parts and all 50 letter scraps, because each unlocks one of Franklin's Strangers and Freaks missions. It also asks for things that are not collectibles at all, such as buying five properties and a vehicle from an in-game website. Nuclear waste, submarine pieces, Epsilon tracts, stunt jumps, Under the Bridge and Knife Flights all sit outside it, even though several of them have their own achievements.

San Andreas did the same with its 70 unique stunt jumps. So when GTA VI's completion list is known, we will mark each collectible type as required or optional.

[12][4]

Red Dead Redemption 2: the scale jumps

Rockstar's last open world went much further. PowerPyx's trophy roadmap counts "over 200 collectibles" alongside 178 animals and 90 challenges on the road to the Platinum. Whether GTA VI goes that far is not known.

What the trailers and Extended Look showUnconfirmed

None of the following has been described by Rockstar as a collectible. They are activities shown in official footage that look like the kind of thing earlier games turned into checklists.

  • Restoring cars for Wyman. The only confirmed collection, and Ultimate Edition only.
  • Water and air. Trailer 1 shows airboats, and GamesRadar+'s list of activities in the Extended Look includes airboating, kayaking, jet skis, diving, base jumping and car racing.
  • The phone and social media. Trailer 1 and the Extended Look both lean on livestreams and viral clips. GTA V had photography challenges, so a camera-based hunt would not be new, but nothing like it has been shown for GTA VI.

What to expect, and what we will do on launch dayUnconfirmed

Our reading of the history, not a Rockstar statement: collectibles have appeared in every main GTA, usually in sets of 50 or 100. The rewards have moved from guns at the safehouse to vehicles and side stories, and GTA V tied several achievements to full sets.

After November 19 we will add each confirmed GTA VI collectible type to this page with its count and reward, then give each type its own page in the collectibles section with locations taken from the released game and our own captures. We will not copy maps or location tables from other sites, and nothing from leaked builds will be used.
