Rockstar released the Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer on October 15, 2026, at 13:00 UTC (9 a.m. Eastern), with no countdown beforehand. It runs about 90 seconds, and the YouTube description says it "was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5." RockstarINTEL and TechRadar both point out that this means a standard PS5, not a PS5 Pro. The release date stays the same: November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

You can watch it on Rockstar's YouTube channel or on Rockstar's video page. Rockstar's own text is short and reuses the synopsis it has shown since Trailer 2, so almost everything below comes from the footage itself.

Everything shown in the trailer

This is the trailer in playback order, based on the scene descriptions published by GamesRadar and TechRadar. We could not load the video player from our server to time each shot, so treat the positions as approximate.

  1. Opening. PlayStation branding opens and closes the trailer, which GamesRadar calls "a clear PlayStation marketing push." Jason, with long hair, talks in voiceover about his time in the army and a departure that did not end well. GamesRadar calls it "a less-than-glamorous military departure."
  2. The call. Jason gets a phone call from Lucia, who is still in prison. TechRadar reads the order of these first scenes as a hint that the story opens from Jason's side.
  3. The swamp, around 0:28. Jason in tactical gear wades through water at night with two armed men behind him. German site netzwelt puts this shot at roughly the 28-second mark and describes night-vision goggles. TechRadar asks whether it could be a flashback to his army days. Nobody knows yet, and Rockstar has not said.
  4. The montage. From here the trailer cuts to "Flower in a Hurricane." Jason and Lucia share a shower scene, and Lucia is wearing an ankle monitor, a detail both GamesRadar and TechRadar picked up. According to TechRadar, the two also dance in a club.
  5. Helicopters. A helicopter crashes behind Jason as he fires an assault rifle (TechRadar describes it hitting the side of a building). GamesRadar also describes Lucia riding in a helicopter through the streets with a grenade launcher, and a third helicopter swinging a chained load through the city like a wrecking ball, smashing a row of windows.
  6. Set pieces. Jason, now with short hair, steps out of a helicopter, and then he and Lucia jump off a roof into what GamesRadar calls "some sort of hotel pool." TechRadar describes Lucia climbing the wheels of an airplane "Mission Impossible-style," and, according to TechRadar alone, Jason sneaking onto a huge ship.
  7. Crime and chases. TechRadar lists bank robberies, Jason and Lucia "fighting off bad guys and the police" and what it calls "seemingly quick-time events."
  8. Ending. The "captured entirely in-game" card and the November 19 date.

New story details

Jason's army past is now on screen. Rockstar's character profile already mentioned a stint in the army. This is the first time Jason talks about it himself, and the outlets agree the exit was not a happy one. Everything else Rockstar has confirmed about him is on our Jason Duval wiki page.

Lucia calls him from prison. Trailer 1 showed Lucia in Leonida Penitentiary. The launch trailer adds the phone call that connects the two of them while she is still inside.

The ankle monitor. Lucia wears it in the shower scene, which TechRadar reads as a sign that she "hasn't completely escaped the law just yet." Whether it limits what you can do as Lucia in gameplay is not known. Her confirmed background is on the Lucia Caminos wiki page.

One line from Lucia. According to GamesRadar, Lucia asks at one point, "Are we gonna be OK."

Two looks for Jason. GamesRadar notes that Jason has long hair for most of the trailer and short hair in other shots. Our guess is that the story spans a fair amount of time, but that is our reading, not something Rockstar has said.

The music

The trailer debuts "Flower in a Hurricane," a new standalone single from Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Rockstar confirmed that the French duo are the composers of GTA VI's original score, so the music outside the radio stations is theirs.

It is also a change of habit. As PC Gamer points out, Trailer 1 used Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road" and Trailer 2 used The Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together." This is the first GTA VI trailer built around new music.

The single is on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, which Rockstar announced on September 17 for release on November 19. It can be pre-saved on streaming services now, with vinyl and CD pre-orders at gtavi-thealbum.com. Rockstar also says to "stay tuned" for more on the music, "including the official score album," but gave no date for it. For the licensed songs on the in-game radio, see our GTA 6 radio stations page.

What the trailer did not confirm

  • PC. There is still no announcement. PC Gamer and TechRadar both mention a recent report of a PC release in early 2027, and Rockstar has not commented on it. Microsoft has already said the game will not stream to PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming, which we covered in our cloud gaming explainer.
  • Unlock time. Rockstar has given a date but no hour. Our release time guide tracks what is known.
  • Review embargo. Rockstar has not said when reviews can go live.
  • Pre-load. Today's post says nothing about it. The November 12 pre-load date comes from Rockstar's earlier pre-order listing, not from this announcement.
  • Whether this is the last trailer. RockstarINTEL thinks it probably is, but Rockstar has not said so.

What happens next

Pre-load opens on November 12, a week before launch. Our GTA 6 pre-load guide explains how it works on each console. The game comes out on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you have not chosen an edition yet, here is what each one includes.

Rockstar also added new key art to its GTA VI artwork page today, "Jason and Lucia: Lock and Load," which RockstarINTEL reports as released with the trailer. It is the image at the top of this page.
