Is the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition worth it?

Nobody can judge the value of the Ultimate items properly until people play the game on November 19, 2026. What can be judged now is the deal itself, and it comes down to three facts:

1. The gap is small next to the game. Ultimate is $20 more than Standard in the US and £20 more in the UK, about a quarter of the base price.
2. Waiting is free on Xbox. The Microsoft Store already sells the Ultimate Edition Upgrade for the same $20 / £20 / CA$30 / A$30 as the price gap.
3. Waiting has one unknown on PlayStation. The PS Store lists the upgrade but marks it Unavailable and shows no price yet, although Rockstar says you can upgrade there "at any time."

How much more does the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition cost?

Prices from the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, checked on October 19, 2026. PlayStation and Xbox charge the same for both editions in all four countries.

The Microsoft Store shows edition prices with a plus sign, for example "$79.99+". The Rockstar Store sells the Standard Edition, digital or as a code in a box, at a price that depends on your region, and points to the PlayStation Store for the upgrade.

What do you get for the extra money?

Rockstar lists 16 Ultimate items and describes them as "an exclusive collection of items threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story." Grouped by what they are:

Two details shape the value. First, the items arrive as the story moves on rather than all at once. Second, the five places are the clearest difference: Rockstar marks them as open only to Ultimate owners, so a Standard player cannot use them.

What are the pros and cons of the Ultimate Edition?

Reasons to buy Ultimate

• Five extra shops and garages that Standard players cannot enter.
• Extra cars, a boat and personalised weapons.
• Items spread across the story, so there is something new as you progress.
• On PlayStation, it is the only way to lock in the price today, since the upgrade has no listed price yet.

Reasons to wait or skip it

• It is digital only. If you want the code-in-box version, Standard is the only choice.
• Not everything arrives on day one. Rockstar describes the items as threaded through Jason and Lucia's story, and they unlock chapter by chapter.
• No one outside Rockstar has played with these items yet, so their real value is unknown.
• On Xbox, upgrading later costs the same as buying Ultimate now.
• The PlayStation Store's offer terms say the Ultimate Edition Upgrade is not eligible for the free month of GTA+. That bonus comes with a digital pre-order of either edition, not with the upgrade.

Which GTA 6 edition should you buy?

Both editions get the same pre-order bonuses, covered in our pre-order guide. Pre-ordering does not commit you to an edition forever, but it does decide whether you pay the gap now or later.

Can you upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes. The Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade is a separate add-on that needs the base game. The Rockstar Store says: "Purchased the game? Upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on PlayStation Store at any time."

On Xbox you can already pre-order the upgrade for $20.00 in the US. On PlayStation it appears on the game page but is marked Unavailable in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, so its price is not known yet. If you play on PS5, check the store again after launch before assuming it will match the gap.
