GTA 6 Upgrade from Standard to Ultimate Edition: Price and Availability

Can you upgrade GTA 6 Standard to Ultimate?

Yes. Rockstar sells the Ultimate Edition Upgrade as a separate add-on for anyone who owns the Standard Edition. Its support page says Standard owners can buy it "at any time", and that people with the physical code-in-box version can upgrade once their download code has been redeemed. The upgrade is sold on the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store, not at retailers.

What you get is the same set of 16 Ultimate items as buying Ultimate outright, including five places Standard players cannot enter. Rockstar says the items are spread through Jason and Lucia's story and unlock chapter by chapter. The full list is in what Standard and Ultimate include.

How much does the GTA 6 Ultimate upgrade cost?

It depends on your console. We checked both stores in four countries on October 20, 2026:

On Xbox the upgrade costs exactly the difference between the two editions, so at the prices listed on October 20, buying Standard plus the Xbox upgrade totals the same as buying Ultimate outright. Future prices may change. The Xbox listing says "Requires a game" and that the content needs GTA VI, sold separately.

Why does the PS Store say the upgrade is unavailable?Unconfirmed

On the GTA VI page of the PlayStation Store, under Add-Ons, the "Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade" appears with the label "PS5 PRE-ORDER" and the word "Unavailable". That was the case in the US, UK, Canada and Australia on October 20, 2026, the same as when we first checked on October 14. There is no price.

Sony and Rockstar have not said why. What we can say for sure:

• The upgrade exists for PS5. Rockstar names the PlayStation Store as a place to buy it, and the Rockstar Store says "Upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on PlayStation Store at any time."
• Its price on PS5 is not announced. Some UK retailers, GAME and ShopTo among them, say on their product pages that the PS5 upgrade costs £20. The PlayStation Store itself does not show that, so treat it as unconfirmed until it does.
• You cannot pre-order it on PS5 right now.

The most likely moment for that to change is around pre-load on November 12 or launch on November 19, but that is our expectation, not an announcement. We will update this page when the listing goes live.

How do you upgrade?

The steps Rockstar describes are short:

1. Own the Standard Edition on your account. If you bought a box, redeem its code on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store first.
2. Buy the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade from the same platform's store. On Xbox it is on the GTA VI store page under add-ons; on PS5 it is listed under Add-Ons on the game page, once it becomes available.
3. The Ultimate items then unlock as you progress through the story.
