GTA 6 Launch Day Checklist: What to Do Before and On November 19

Before November 12

• Pick an edition, or don't. The Standard Edition is the full game. The Rockstar Store says you can upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store "at any time", so there is no rush. Our editions guide lists what Ultimate adds.
• Pre-order before the bonus cut-off. The Xbox listing gives the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+ to purchases made prior to November 19, 2026 23:59:59. Details per store are in our pre-order guide.
• Match your code to your account. If you are buying a code-in-box copy, Rockstar Support recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as your PlayStation or Xbox account.
• Free up space on the right drive. GTA VI has to run from internal storage, a PS5 M.2 SSD or an Xbox Storage Expansion Card. USB drives can hold games for later but cannot run PS5 or Series X|S optimized games. The pre-load guide has the details.

November 12: pre-load day

• Pre-load opens. On PS5, turn on automatic downloads and Stay Connected to the Internet in rest mode, then check GTA VI in Game Library. On Xbox, pre-install from the store or your library, or start a remote install from the Xbox app.
• Code-in-box shipping becomes available from the Rockstar Store, which estimates one to seven days for physical orders after launch depending on the shipping option. Redeem the code as soon as the box arrives so you can pre-load too.
• Exact start time: not confirmed. See the pre-load guide.

November 18: the evening beforeUnconfirmed

• Make sure the download has finished, not just started.
• Find your unlock time. The store listings currently point to local midnight on November 19, starting in New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on November 18 and reaching the US East Coast at 05:00 UTC. Those listings are not a Rockstar announcement; our release time guide has the full table and the caveats.
• On PS5, the countdown timer on GTA VI in Game Library shows how long is left for your account.

When it unlocks

• Let any update finish. Rockstar has not announced a day-one patch, but keep automatic updates on in case one appears.
• Bonus items arrive in the story. The Xbox listing says Vintage Vice City Pack items "will be available to Jason and Lucia as their story progresses". Ultimate Edition items are also spread across the story: the Rockstar Store says new items are uncovered behind each chapter. Do not expect everything on the first screen.
• Redeem the free GTA+ month. The Xbox listing says the GTA+ month from a pre-order must be redeemed within 180 days after placing the pre-order. PlayStation rules differ; the pre-order guide has both. Rockstar's store terms say GTA+ memberships auto-renew monthly until cancelled.

If it does not unlock when you expectUnconfirmed

• Check the time for your account's store region, not the region you live in. A UK account unlocks on UK time, a US account on the US listing.
• If you used a code, make sure it was redeemed on the account you are signed into and that it matches that account's region.
• Check the official GTA VI page and the Rockstar Newswire for any change to launch timing before assuming a fault.
• We will post confirmed launch-night problems and fixes on this page as they happen.

What not to expect on launch day

• A PC version. Rockstar has not announced one. GTA VI is a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S game.
• An online mode. Rockstar has not announced one, and the Xbox Store listing describes GTA VI as "a single-player experience".
• Confirmed cheat codes. None so far. Our cheats page only lists codes after we test them in the game.
